Fugaku Watanabe
Born in Fuji City, Shizuoka, Japan.Began practicing calligraphy at the age of 6 under the guidance of his mother and later studied under esteemed masters Gyofu Suzuki and Seiu Takaki. Earned a Doctorate in Calligraphy Studies from Daito Bunka University Graduate School, a top institution for calligraphy in Japan. Currently serves as a part-time lecturer at Takushoku University and holds board positions in leading Japanese calligraphy organizations including the Yomiuri Shodo-kai and the Kenshin Shodo-kai.He is also an active exhibitor at the prestigious Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition), with seven accepted entries to date.In addition to traditional exhibitions, he is widely active in contemporary calligraphy performances, workshops, film consultancy, and global collaborations.

【Major Career Highlights】
・June 2025: Provided private calligraphy instruction to Hollywood actor Brad Pitt in Tokyo.
・March 2025: Launched a successful crowdfunding campaign raising 2.19 million yen to complete a two-week
Nordic calligraphy tour in Norway and Denmark.
・April 2024: Supervised the calligraphy and trained lead actor Kento Yamazaki for the film “Onmyoji 0”.
・October 2023: Created all branding calligraphy—including signage, T-shirts, and interior works—for
TERUZUSHI locations in Fukuoka and Saudi Arabia.
・July/November 2020: Created monumental calligraphy works for the RIKEN Supercomputer “Fugaku” in
celebration of its #1 world ranking.
・February 2020: Performed live calligraphy in a collaborative show with Takafumi Horie (Horiemon) at the
Roppongi Horiemon Expo.
